LANGUAGE TRAINING

Introduction

Second language training can be conducted under a variety of options.
While New Avenues Linguistic Services inc. still favours personal contact with the learners, distance learning is a possibility for students or participants who work or live too far away to make travelling to a classroom an efficient and effective solution.
Whether it be as a private, group, face-to-face or distanceexperience, learning a second language brings multiple rewards.

Read on to find out what opportunities are available with New Avenues Linguistic Services inc.

French as a second language
New Avenues Linguistic Services inc. wants its participants to acquire a sufficient level of language skills mastery for efficient verbal communication.

New Avenues Linguistic Services inc. emphasizes oral comprehension and expression since communicative competence is the ultimate goal of our programs. Sound discrimination is also part of our classes as are rhythm, intonation, vocabulary and grammar. Practice exercises include real life job situations, simulations, role plays, oral presentations and discussions.

Specific grammar courses are also available every spring.

Participants are encouraged to purchase a textbook which is mainly used for homework to be done as reinforcement between classes.  Advanced levels use authentic materials (magazine and newspaper articles) to confront them with everyday subject matter.

Participants have a chance to formally evaluate the program at the end of a session through the filling out of a questionnaire.

The instructor fills out a progress report for each participant.  It is given out at the end of every session.

- Training Plans

Employees often possess a certain degree of knowledge of a second language as attested by a proficiency assessment, but are not confident enough to use it on the job, exactly where the employer needs such proficiency.New Avenues Linguistic Services inc. can help the employer with planning and the employee with suggestions to reach the required level of communication by drawing up training plans which will indicate how long and what type of training opportunities could be used to reach the organization or individual’s goals.

My primarily francophone colleagues are impressed with the improvement in my French-speaking.

I have become more flexible with what I can do.

My French language training makes my job easier and I feel proud to help and serve in the French language.

When I started learning French just over 2 years ago, I could barely speak a sentence in French and now I speak some at work every day.

I have a far greater knowledge of French now and the satisfaction of understanding much more of what is said by my French colleagues and friends.

I believe that French language training was very useful.  I was more confident to speak and listen to French.  I am also more inclined to listen to French radio and watch French T.V.

I think I speak (French) with a little more polish and sophistication now.

These courses have been very helpful to me – I have learned a lot and want to continue to learn – it has been fun.

FRENCH AS A FIRST LANGUAGE

Participants in this program can register in a 20 or 40-hour corrective grammar course where grammar rules are reviewed and practiced extensively through structural exercises.
A written skills course can be offered where participants learn to write memos, letters and reports effectively.
A specific conjugation course is usually offered in the Spring.  The purpose of this course is to help learners understand the conjugation system of the French language.
